Tackling the TBR in 2013

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Every week they post a new topic/Top Ten list and invite everyone to share their own answers. I'm so obsessed with lists!

Instead of choosing new releases for this list, I limited myself to choosing books that had been on my TBR the longest. Good thing Goodreads shows me how sad it is that some of my TBR books have been on my shelves for years...

Top Ten Books I Resolve to Read in 2013

1. Becoming Queen Victoria by Kate Williams - I got on a Queen Victoria kick after seeing The Young Victoria movie with Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend, so I immediately asked for a few books about her. I've read We Two: Victoria and Albert by Gillian Gill, but I just haven't gotten around to this one yet. It WILL happen in 2013.

2. Looking for Anne of Green Gables by Irene Gammel - I think this has already been on one of my TTT lists. I don't know why I still haven't gotten around to this one - I love reading about L.M. Montgomery!

3. Louisa May Alcott: The Woman Behind Little Women by Harriet Reisen - I got this book back when I was on a Little Women binge, but then it died off before I got around to reading this so it's making the list because it's been on my TBR way too long.

4. One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez - I put this on my TTT list for my Spring 2012 TBR. And then I didn't get around to the "R" part. Oops! This is the year.

5. East of Eden by John Steinbeck - I know that Lorren from The Story Girl loves this book, and I think she named her new baby boy after one of the characters. That tells me I need to prioritize this in the New Year.

6. Les Miserables by Victor Hugo - I know that I need to take advantage of the high I'm on after seeing the movie because there will never be a better time for me to just dive in. I've actually started, and I'll be keeping track of my progress here on the blog.

7. Cotillion by Georgette Heyer - I got this and The Grand Sophy by Heyer when they were on major sale for the Kindle. I read and loved Sophy, so why haven't I made the time to read this?

8. Rules of Civility by Amor Towles - I love the cover and have heard such lovely things about this book. Someone even gave it to me for Christmas last year, and I still haven't picked it up. Well, now it's on notice... I'm coming for it in 2013.

9. Madame Tussaud by Michelle Moran - Another book I wanted and was gifted that I still haven't read! This is embarrassing y'all.

10. Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks - I watched one of the two episodes of this when it was on PBS, and then I ran out to buy the book. I didn't even finish the series - I had to read the book first. Then, not shockingly, I didn't read the book or finish watching the series. But I still love Eddie Redmayne... that hasn't changed.

  2. Lots of great classics!! Awesome picks. :) I will admit that I struggled with 100 Years of Solitude ... it was a little boring to me, but hopefully you'll like it!

Good luck with your reads, Hannah!

  4. Becoming Queen Victoria sounds great, I loved the movie with Emily Blunt and I still haven't read any biography on any royal, so it would be a great place to start.

  7. John Steinbeck is my favorite as far as classics go but I've never read East of Eden! I just love his short novels and The Grapes of Wrath is my favorite classic novel. I'm happy to see a Steinbeck on your list!
