it's almost
time for war.

Juliette has escaped to Omega Point. It is a place for people like her - people with gifts - and it is also the headquarters of the rebel resistance.

She's finally free from The Reestablishment, free from their plan to use her as a weapon, and free to love Adam. But Juliette will never be free from her lethal touch.

Or from Warner, who wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible.

In this exhilarating sequel to Shatter Me, Juliette has to make life-changing decisions between what she wants and what she thinks is right. Decisions that might involve choosing between her heart - and Adam's life.

Thoughts on Unravel Me
Instead of a review, my feelings are a little different for this book. Let's proceed.

Dear Juliette,

Girl, why are you such a pill in this book? I really don't understand. You were crazypants in Shatter Me, but I understood you. I felt your pain and just wanted to give you a great big hug and sit next to you in therapy. But in Unravel Me, I really just wanted to put you in time out. Why are you so mopey and whiny?

You've got skills. Let's get a grip and start acting like the boss you could be if you'd stop pretending you're in middle school. Yep, middle school. Juliette, you're above that. I know, I know - you've got relationship problems and all the feelings. That doesn't make it okay! Rise above. Be awesome. Because you, my friend, can be kind of a buzzkill.

You know I love you. I just want you to be better.

Dear Adam,

Do I picture you as Adam Levine for no reason other than your name is Adam? Maybe. But that just works in your favor! Have you seen his tattoos? Dayyyyuuuummmmm. Unlike Betty, I'm not a sucker for a boy with tattoos, but I'd make the exception for Mr. Levine so that also extends to you. Anyway, back to the topic at hand....

I love you. I really do. I swooned and sighed when you charmed crazy Juliette in Shatter Me. I cheered you on when you wooed that lonely soul. So what happened? I needed you to be in control. Instead, you were just as much of a pill as Juliette. Don't worry, I didn't switch to Team Evil Villain. But I thought about it for two seconds before I came to my senses! Those two seconds NEVER would have happened if you'd been on your game.

I expect great things from you. It's time to deliver.

Dear Warner,

I don't know who you are, why people like you, or what happened in Chapter Sixty-Whatever. As far as I'm concerned, you = nothing but a bad guy.

Okay, so maybe you have a human side. Doesn't mean I'm rooting for you! Wanting you and Juliette to be together would be like sticking my finger in at outlet - I know better, it's just going to end in pain and I'd look stupid in THE END. Because in THE END, she's going to be with Adam. Or Kenji. Okay, sorry, that's probably just a personal wish. Either way - she won't be with you!

Go find a dog to be your friend and just leave Juliette alone. OKAY?!

Dear Kenji,

I love you. I love you. I love you. Wherever you are, that's where I want to be too. Thanks for being the one normal person in this barrel of crazy. Also, I'd be totally okay if you turned everything into a love square. Just saying...

Dear Tahereh,

Thanks for writing one of my favorite books this year! Yes, some of your characters needed a good spanking or to be told, "You have five seconds to change your attitude before I change it for you." But you made me feel! You made me take sides, clutch my pages, sigh in happiness and then groan in frustration. So, I love you for that. Thanks for making sit down with this big fat book and not get up again until I was done. Thanks for writing something that made me want to discuss it with friends and shove the series on everyone I meet. Thanks for putting the crazy down on paper and sending it out into the world. This reader is forever grateful!

"Synonyms know each other like old colleagues, like a set of friends who've seen the world together. They swap stories, reminisce about their origins and forget that though they are similar, they are entirely different, and though they share a certain set of attributes, one can never be the other. Because a quiet night is not the same as a silent one, a firm man is not the same as a steady one, and a bright light is not the same as a brilliant one because the way they wedge themselves into a sentence changes everything. They are not the same."

  1. I just read your review twice and I'm still smiling. You, my friend, are AMAZING. Not only do I love the way you formatted this (which I absolutely do) but I also agree with everything you said.

"Go find a dog to be your friend and just leave Juliette alone." DYING OF LAUGHTER. I can't imagine why people even consider Warner a great match for Juliette, or anyone for that matter. He's evil. Maybe evil with a personality change, but still evil.

I liked Adam but not as much as in Shatter Me, and same for Juliette. (Though I don't blame her entirely. She's pretty messed up after all.) But Kenji is wonderful and incredible and amazeballs and I'm firmly on his side. I think I need to put him on next week's book boyfriends TTT.

And like you said to Tahereh Mafi: I may not have liked everything that happened in this book, but everything made me FEEL something, and that doesn't always happen. This series is incredible.

ps. I love how I could totally hear you say "dayyyyuuuummmmm" after the accent video hahaha.

    1. So glad you loved my crazy review format this time around! I felt like this was the only way I could properly convey my feelings.

And yay for accent videos helping you imagine me cussing :)

  2. KENJI WHAT?
    It's Adam forever and ever.
Despite my love for Adam forever and ever, I was certainly moved by Chapter 62 and that is that.
You remember that I told you about how stressed I was while reading this one, so much so that I went directly back and re-read/listened to Shatter Me? Which firmly solidified my Adam-love forever and ever? Now I'm kind of scared to listen to Unravel Me because I'm scared of how it will make Warner sound - you know how he has changed from one book to another. I walk by my shelves. I actually have Unravel Me pulled OUT so I can re-read it soon but I just get too nervous to go ahead and do it! But I WANT TO SO MUCH. But I'm scared that I'll fall back into the confusion that I had when I was under Warner's weird spell for like a nanosecond of Chapter 62 (which I enjoyed). What if I get confused again? Then I'll have to go ALL THE WAY BACK and start over and read Shatter Me again. This could potentially end up being my most re-read series ever because of the wily ways of T Mafi's pen.

    She's good. She's really good.

Love this. Ready for Juliette to "man up" a bit and show the world who's boss. And I think Adam shall win in the end. OF COURSE.

    1. Yes, okay, it's Adam forever and ever. But I still love me some Kenji!

I totally need to go re-read Shatter Me so I can get some more Adam love back into me life. AND YES - it's like a weird Warner spell! I'm just waiting for everyone else to snap out of it :)

I like that you're going to get stuck in a neverending cycle of re-reading this series!

  3. Okay, I still haven't read Unravel Me, but I LOVED this review! And now I'm thinking I want to read Unravel Me, like, asap! (Also, I wholeheartedly agree with your thoughts regarding Warner. Screw him - NOT LITERALLY, JULIETTE!)

  4. Despite my reservations for Unravel Me, and there were a...few, I really loved this review. I agree with so much of what you've said! Juliette was a buzzkill! And Adam, what the hell happened to him? He might as well have been absent for the whole thing for the impact he left on me.

Not gonna lie though, I love Warner. He's sick and twisted and evil but he's so dynamic! Despite knowing that he's evil, I've seen glimpses that he's not - and I'm grasping to that will all the strength I've got!

Kenji is pretty great - he gets mad props for being the sole voice of reason. I could have hugged him when he told Juliette to get over herself and grow a pair (I'm paraphrasing here).

    1. YES! Juliette was lame and Adam was nothing like his former awesome self. Glad you loved my review! But noooooo! You've fallen under Warner's evil spell... Haha!

  5. THANK YOU! WHY IS EVERYONE ELSE ALL TEAM WARNER?!?!?!

  6. I LOVE the letter to Juliette! She was too much crazy for me this go-around. I too would love a little more Kenji, but I'm not a fan of Adam so I would just like to switch up the triangle a teeny tiny bit. I actually really like Warner but I'm all about literary bad guys. I'd never, ever go for the bad guy in real life, but in a book or even on TV I am all about that. Example: Did you ever watch Alias? I was all about Sydney getting together with Sark.

    1. 1. I'd never go for a real bad guy, but I do sometimes fall for the literary and/or TV variety.

      2. OMG I LOVE ALIAS SO THAT AUTOMATICALLY MAKES YOU AWESOME + US FRIENDS! Haha! But yes, I loved Sark, too. Do you ever watch Vampire Diaries? Because I'm in love with the bad brother on that show AND Sark has a role but I can't think of him as anything but Sark.

  7. This may be the best review I've seen for this book. Seriously, you got all the feelings I want to express about it out in this post - and I love it. Tahereh did a spectacular job with this book, as it basically blew my mind and tore at my heart. SO GOOD.

P.S. I totally love Kenji. Forever.

  8. I freakin' love this review even though I haven't read Unravel Me yet (I KNOW, no excuse for that). But seriously, love how you broke it down into letter format. Sounds like Juliette is going to irritate the heck out of me. ALSO yes to team Adam. I love that you picture him as Adam Levine, LOL.

    1. Isn't everything better if you picture someone as Adam Levine? Can't wait for you to read this one!

  11. Hannah I heart you so much and while you're letter to Warner is HILARIOUS it hurt my heart a little bit :(

But I'm okay with this because that means more Warner for me. This review is amazeballs and I absolutely adore it! You are too creative and awesome! Love it!

And thanks for the sweetness - don't think I've ever been called amazeballs before. I could get used to it.
