Ready to Fall for These Books

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Every week they post a new topic/top ten list and invite everyone to share their own answers. I'm so obsessed with lists - so it makes perfect sense that I'd love this feature!

This is one of my favorite topics each season - I love browsing my Goodreads shelves and trying to think about what I'll most be in the mood to read over the next few months. I finished five out of the ten on my Summer TBR post, so I did just fine. It certainly wasn't a huge success, but I ended up really focusing on the Summer Series Challenge and am so glad I did!

So, what's on my radar for fall?

Top Ten Books On My Fall TBR

Because I Said I Would

1. The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton - Okay, so I requested this from NetGally because I like the cover, the summary sounds awesome, and it's already being named as a book that could win literary awards. The only problem? I had NO idea that it was so long. Anyway, I'm ready to hunker down with this chunkster and hopefully fall in love.

2. The River of No Return by Bee Ridgway - This is the only book from my Summer TBR to make an appearance on this list, too. I'm still planning on reading this lovely-looking book! I bought a hard copy recently because I just needed to have it on my shelves. Yes, I'm that person.

Because Exciting Things Are Coming

3. The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon - I have some really fun things planned with Cassie, and this book plays a part in that. Rave reviews from so many bloggers I trust and an interesting concept means I'm ready to dive into this new world.

4. The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty - Another book that will play a role in my upcoming excitement! Cassie's already reading this one, so now I'm dying to find out what this book has in store. It helps that I've read some awesome reviews and was really intrigued by the small sample I've already read!

Because My TBR Is Toppling Over

5. Orphan Train by Christine Baker Kline - I picked this up on a whim at Target one day, and I'm so glad I did now that I've seen so many great reviews of it. It covers a part of history I know next-to-nothing about, so I'm really curious about what I can learn in this one.

6. The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey - Although it's probably more wintery than fall-ish, I'm dying to read this book that's been on my TBR since the beginning of the year. I wanted to wait for cooler weather, and it looks like that time has finally arrived!

Because They're New & Shiny

7. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell - You better believe this is on my fall TBR! I bought this one the minute it came out (read: pre-ordered), so I'm really excited to go to college with Cath and Rainbow Rowell. I took a little time to read Eleanor & Park, but I just don't think I can hold off on this read!

8. In the Shadow of Blackbirds by Cat Winters - This book seems a little creepy, which is obviously perfect for October. I mean, it's like it was made to be read in the fall. Alyssa recommended this and The Caged Graves to me, and I loved the latter so I'm really looking forward to being able to chat about this one with her, too.

Because I Pre-Ordered Them

9. Where the Stars Still Shine by Trish Doller - I really liked Something Like Normal, but I wasn't actually planning on purchasing this one right away. Well, repeated good reviews and Cassie's book enthusiasm finally prompted me to just do it. Now that I've read a sample? Well, dang! I want this one NOW.

10. The Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead - If I could only read one book this fall, I seriously think it might be this one. I LOVED The Indigo Spell, and it left me dying for more (particularly for more of my new favorite couple). I'm frantically anticipating this book's release... it can't come soon enough!

    1. Haha! Don't worry - you were one of those "rave" reviews I referred to! And yeah, I've been meaning to read The Snow Child for so long. Totally time for me to get around to it. I already have a good feeling about Fangirl. And you forgot The Fiery Heart? I'm so disappointed in you!

  3. The Luminaries sounds fantastic and ideally I'd love to read it before the Man Booker Prize winner is announced but alas...will definitely make a point to read it some time. The River of No Return and Fangirl are also on my radar, heard nothing but great things about them :)

    1. Yeah, I'd love to read it before then, too. I just don't know if I can actually make that happen in time. And I've heard nothing but great things about the other two, too! Hope they live up to my expectations :)

  5. I actually just added The Luminaries on Goodreads because of someone's TTT post today, haha! It sounds really interesting.

Hearing SO many good things about The River of No Return. I think it'll be a winter read for me!

Wasn't a big fan of Fangirl, but I'm in the minority on that one. In The Shadow of Blackbirds is a perfect fall, creepy but beautiful read.

Good luck on your fall TBR list & happy reading!

    1. Haha! I love it! I'll have to keep an eye out for that TTT list :)

I could totally see The River of No Return being a winter read! I hope that I actually get to it this fall AND that I love it so I can convince you that you just have to read it haha!

I wasn't a fan of Eleanor & Park - so I've definitely been in the minority before on a super popular book. I hope I love Fangirl since her previous book wasn't a hit with me. Also, I love the cover sooo.... I just want to love the story too! And now you've made me more excited for In the Shadow of Blackbirds! Yay!

  8. Great list, I think most are on my 'read as soon as possible' list! I'm hoping to pick up a copy of The Luminaries today and I have River of No Return from NG but shamefully haven't read it yet. And Fiery Heart! How could I have forgotten that? Although I still need to read Indigo Spell...

    1. Glad these books are on your radar, too! I got A River of No Return from NG but never got around to it. I ended up buying a copy because I was hoping that would motivate me to finally get around to it. Plus, I adore that cover. AHHHH! Read The Indigo Spell. It was so good!

  9. None of these are on my actual TBR pile, but a few are on my general want-to-read list. I can't wait to read The Orphan Train, The Snow Child, and Fangirl at some point :) Good luck with your reading!

  14. Fangirl is my favorite book of the year so far so I hope you get to read it ASAP! I absolutely loved Something Like Normal, but I just didn't click with Where the Stars Still Shine. I so wanted to love it and I feel so guilty for not loving it, but I don't know, I just didn't! Great list!

    1. Yeah, I'm hoping I get to read it ASAP! Sad to hear you didn't click with Where the Stars Still Shine. It definitely happens to me - so no guilt there! There have been plenty of books I wanted to love but just didn't :( Can't wait to check out your list!

  16. Seriously, Fangirl is amazing! I related to Cath so much, it was actually kind of scary. I hope you like it ( I can't imagine anyone not loving it ). I still haven't read Something Like Normal, but I am curious about Where the Stars Still Shine.

    Happy Autumn Reading :)

    1. Oh I was already so excited about reading it but all these hearty recommendations in the comments have me even more pumped to get around to it. It helps that I adored the cover!

I only read Something Like Normal this summer, so I was definitely late to that one. It was on sale for Kindle one day and that was the perfect thing to convince me to give it a shot. I'm hoping I love STARS!

  17. Fangirl and Where the Stars Still Shine are on my list, too! I definitely want to check out The Bone Season. I've seen a lot of positive things about The Husband's Secret, I want to check it out sometime!

    1. I think those two are on a lot of people's lists! Fan favorites :) I'm nervous about The Bone Season but hoping I love it. And I'm reading The Husband's Secret now and really intrigued so far!

  18. Wow, none of these are on my list! This has something to do with the fact that I've already read FANGIRL and WHERE THE STARS STILL SHINE. I've heard a bit about THE RIVER OF NO RETURN, but not enough to persuade me to read it, so I'll be interested to hear how you like it.

    Here's my fall TBR!

And I've heard a bit about The River of No Return, but not a ton. I'm excited to read and review it! Hoping I love it because the cover is one of my FAVORITES.

  19. I pre-ordered Where the Stars Still Shine as well and can't wait to get my hands on it! I also ordered The Bone Season, but accidentally had it on the same order as a pre-ordered book, so I have to wait a month or so to have it. ;) Orphan Train sounds really good as well and is one of those books that has completely slipped my mind since I added it to my TBR a couple months back. Oops! Thanks for reminding me! Great list.

    1. Yay for pre-ordering! And I HATE when I do that with books! I've totally had to wait on a book for way too long because I grouped it into one shipment and forgot that the books had vastly different release dates. At least you're almost there! Only a handful of days left.

Yeah, I was really interested in Orphan Train when I first heard about it and then it kinda got moved to the sidelines. I enjoyed putting this list together - seeing it on Goodreads reminded me to move it up my TBR!

  20. I love how you grouped these books up by the reason they are on your top ten! I have seen Fangirl EVERYWHERE and I'm thinking that I need to see it on my shelf sometime soon because it seems like just the kind of book I would love!

    1. Thanks Emma! Coming up with categories sometimes helps me write a more well-rounded list - or at least one that's more realistic about what I'll actually read. I have a feeling I'll love Fangirl too! Hope it lives up to my expectations haha :)

  22. Oh goodness. I've stared at the "buy now" button for The Husband's Secret on my Kindle for weeks now and I almost walked out of Target with it today. Struggle. Want to read it. So. Bad. Maybe I'll wait to see what you and Cassie have to say about it before deciding to purchase it for myself. :)

    1. I'm reading it now (and Cass already finished it) so we'll be doing our thing on it soon. I'm not far enough in to say anything one way or the other about it, but I'm definitely curious about where it's headed. I'll keep you posted!
