December 2013: On My Shelves + Recap

Sarah Hearts
Adios, 2013! All in all, it was a pretty great reading year for me. I discovered so many incredible books and found some new-to-me favorite authors. I read more this year than I have in the last two years, which is when I first started tracking my reading. Although I bought WAY too many books this year, I still can't help but admire all the loveliness I've added to my shelves.

The best thing that happened this year was making new friends through blogging. I started interacting more with the blogging community last year, but it wasn't until this one that I actually became friends with the lovely ladies I chatted with online. I cannot say enough about how thankful I am for the friends I've made this year - and now I don't know what I'd do without them!

Here's to making things happen in 2014!

  1. Yayyyyyyyyy for a Fall on your Knees (and all the others OBVIOUSLY). I just ordered the Legend series too -- maybe we can read it together?

Oh, and you're adorable. As always.

    1. Yayyyy for that recommendation! Can't wait to read it :) And yes, we should at least read the Legend series around the same time (if not together) so we can discuss.

      And thank you sugar!

  4. I just got Princesses Behaving Badly by Linda McRobbie from the library and am so excited to read it. I love Ann Brashares so I'm also really excited for the release of The Here and Now. I got Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen for Christmas and finished it all in one sitting on boxing day -- I think you will like it because a lot of the things that are awesome about Graceling are in Scarlet, too! Really looking forward to your reviews on these.

    1. I really love how Princesses Behaving Badly looks in person! It's such a nice copy. I haven't read Brashares YA books (I know, I know) - but I loved her adult stuff and am really excited for this release. Finished all in one day? THAT MEANS IT'S AWESOME.

  5. I was actually just thinking of buying Love & Other Perishable Items for a friend for the holidays... I may go to the bookstore at lunch and grab that one for her. I really liked it when I read it last year and I still have another Buzo book to read from Magan. Maybe I should get on that. eee! You were spoiled for Christmas and I'm glad to see it because you deserve it.

Now tell me about those pictures behind you in your video! I couldn't stop staring at them.

    Happy new year, love!

    1. I have actually read Buzo's other book - I swapped with Mandee and requested that title :) It's so good, so I'm really excited for this one. And yes, SO spoiled for Christmas! Too bad my birthday (aka the other time I get too many books) is so close! Haha :)

  6. Great haul! I don't have time to watch your video, but I still want to leave a quick comment. I LOVE The crown of Embers. Hector <3 Legend was good and I really need to get started in Champion. The book thief is one of my favorites. Strands of bronze and gold could have been better. Princesses behaving badly is on my list for a reading challenges. Sounds very interesting. Happy reading :D

    1. OMG YES TO HECTOR. Such a great hero! I'm excited to start the Legend series, and I also loved The Book Thief. Just had to have that copy of it haha :) Looking forward to comparing thoughts on some of the others!

  7. Oh my God I really want to read the Legend trilogy, cannot wait to have your opinion before I read them myself! :)
Also: I cannot wait to get my hands on These broken stars, Nantucket blue and The book thief (although this last book scares me, I'm afraid I'm gonna cry so hard while reading it!). I guess I'll buy less clothes this winter... And more books!!!

    1. I'm excited to read them and blog about them! Hope I love them and can convince you to read them after! I fully support fewer clothes and more books! Hahahha :)

  8. Hannah! I love listening to you talk in your videos, because your accent is just darling. Plus, it makes me feel like we're friends in real life (which I still think we are, even though our friendship is virtual at this point). As for your books, you had a lot of great ones in this post! I don't even know where to begin when it comes to commenting on them, honestly, but I'm going to try.

As you know, I still need to read the rest of the Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy. I have read the first one (and loved it) but I never got around to continuing. Going to make that happen with Judith this year! I also am looking forward to trying out the Legend series, which everyone says is fantastic. Love and Other Perishable Items and Attachments are two other books I'm certainly looking forward to as well.

As for the ones I have read: I loved all the Throne of Glass novellas (of course I did!), A Darkness Strange & Lovely (more Eleanor and more Daniel and Paris!), Out of the Easy (loved the setting and the MC a lot), These Broken Stars (the relationship WORKED for me) and The Book Thief (slow start, but so, so good).

    Happy reading in 2014! <3

    1. Oh my gosh, Alexa, you're seriously too sweet! I love when other bloggers do vlogs so I can hear their voice, and then I feel the exact same way that you do. It makes me feel like I know them so much better!

I hope you finish the Fire and Thorns series soon! It's seriously so good, Alexa. I'm really looking forward to Love and Other Perishable Items + Legend series, too. And yayyyy Attachments! I adored that book.

And I'm really so excited about all the ones you've read and loved :) A few I've since read but there's still some reading goodness left for me to discover!
