Books Blossoming This Spring

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Every week they post a new topic/top ten list and invite everyone to share their own answers. I'm so obsessed with lists - so it makes perfect sense that I'd love this feature!

Y'all, for the first time in the history of all of these seasonal to read lists, I read every single book that was on my winter TBR. That's right: all ten books. I couldn't wait for the spring list to roll around because I was itching to give myself a new goal. I hope I'm just as successful with this list!

Top Ten Books On My Spring TBR

1. One Plus One by Jojo Moyes - Listen, it's Jojo Moyes. You better believe I'm going to read it and soak up every word! I've loved the two books I've read by Moyes so far, and I can't wait to spend some more time with her backlist. Until then, I'm sure I'll be fangirling over this upcoming release!

2. The Girls of the Kingfisher Club by Genevieve Valentine - This book caught my eye on NetGalley, and I finally caved and requested it! This is both historical fiction and a re-telling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses fairytale. I really adore this cover, so I hope I enjoy the story inside, too.

3. Whistling Past the Graveyard by Susan Crandall - I put this book on Cassie's radar, and then I ended up asking for a copy for Christmas. I love the cover and description, and the sample I read seems so good, too. Cassie kept holding off on reading it until warmer weather, so I ended up just following suit. Now is the time!

4. Someone Else's Love Story by Joshilyn Jackson - Despite being from the South, I've actually never read anything by Joshilyn Jackson! I'm excited to finally experience her work with this one, which I picked up in a Kindle sale not that long ago. I think Cass and I will be reading this one for Favorite Factor, so this one is almost guaranteed to get crossed off my list!

5. The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd - I had no intention of buying this book, but I sat down at Barnes & Noble with it one day and couldn't leave without. There was something about the narrator's voice that just sucked me in, and I knew the book had to go home with me. It hasn't sat on my shelf for that long, but it still keeps calling to me to pick it up!

6. The Engagements by J. Courtney Sullivan - My mom bought me this book last summer while on vacation, and I don't know why I didn't read it right away. I haven't read anything by Sullivan, but something about this book just really appealed to me. Maybe it was the cover?! I can't wait to find out how I'll feel about it!

7. Dark Triumph by Robin LaFevers - I've been on a re-reading kick lately, which is just perfect because I really need to re-read Grave Mercy before picking up this book. I totally loved the historical fantasy combination, and I pre-ordered Dark Triumph and then never got around to reading it. Why?!

8. The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas - I am totally in love with this series, and I bought the e-novellas. I just didn't prioritize them, and there's something about this gorgeous hardcover that has me itching to dive in. I'm so excited to find out what happened prior to Throne of Glass... and I have a feeling I'm going to end up wanting to continue on after this one and re-read the next two!

9. Across the Star-Swept Sea by Diana Peterfreund - I really loved For Darkness Shows the Stars, and ended up pre-ordering this one because I couldn't wait for its release. And again... it's just sitting on my shelf. It's kind of embarrassing how many books fall into that category! Either way, I'm looking forward to revisiting this world.

10. A Mad, Wicked Folly by Sharon Biggs Waller - As a historical fiction lover, I've always got an eye out for new titles that strike my fancy. This one seems like something I'm going to love, and I really hope it lives up to my expectations. I've heard great things so far, so that's promising!

  1. Everything in your YA section is AMAZING! Read them all, super solid reads. I keep debating if I want to read Someone Else's Love Story...I don't know why I'm on the fence. OMG ONE PLUS ONE!!!! Also, if the Girls at the Kingfisher Club is still on NetGalley I might request it...it sounds pretty good!!

    1. 1. So glad to have your stamp of approval on my YA section.
      2. As we've now discussed, pass on Someone Else's Love Story.
      3. JOJO.
      4. It's still on NetGalley. You should totally request. Just so we can then talk about it together.

  3. That is so awesome that you read your whole winter list! I stopped doing these particular TTT's because I kept ending up reading barely any of the books :( Some time soon I'm going to make myself a master list of all the books for Top Tens and Waiting on Wednesdays I was SO excited for and then never got around to so I can remind myself how much I wanted to read them and nudge them back to the top of the pile :)

    1. Haha! Yeah, I was shocked when I realized that I'd read them all. I'm not usually on target with my list and what I actually read. I've gotten better about only listing things that I actually own, which has increased my success. I do so much better when I force myself to just pick from what I actually own!

    1. Haha! I love this comment, and I thought the covers looked beautiful, too, when I was looking at them all grouped together.

  5. Across a Star Swept Sea is on my list for this year too! Not my TTT list for today, but just my "seriously, get this done" list. I love the cover like crazy! Other than the Throne of Glass novellas, I haven't read any of the rest of your list! I've heard good things about A Mad, Wicked Folly.

    1. YES! I pre-ordered Across A Star-Swept Sea and feel guilty that it still hasn't happened. Hope we both get to it this year! I'm so excited for those novellas :) And I've heard good things about that one, too! Hope I enjoy it!

    1. Seriously. Jojo Moyes can do no wrong in my book. I've become a total fangirl. And I'm so happy you loved Dark Triumph - gives me even more motivation to get to it :)

  9. I really think you should read the novellas included in The Assassin's Blade! They are actually great little interconnected stories that give readers more insight into who Celaena was before Throne of Glass, and what happened to her along the way. There are also some pretty awesome characters that you should meet, including Sam! (Also, in general, I just love the way Sarah Maas tells a story. And love this series. And will probably book push it for life.)

ANYWAY, now that my fangirling and endorsement is done, let's move on to everything else. I LOVED Dark Triumph, mostly because I really adore Beast and Sybella. I enjoyed Across a Star-Swept Sea, because it was another take on the world Diana introduced us to in For Darkness Shows the Stars with a kick-ass heroine. And I, too, am looking forward to indulging in A Mad Wicked Folly!

As always, you have introduced me to a bunch of adult fiction that I need to read. I think I'm most looking forward to the first two you mention, One Plus One and The Girls of the Kingfisher Club.

    1. Haha! Oh don't worry, I will definitely be reading the novellas. I just keep putting them off because I think I'm going to end up wanting to re-read TOG and COM after I do, so I have to be prepared for that outcome.

I'm so glad you loved Dark Triumph and really enjoyed Across A Star-Swept Sea. I pre-ordered BOTH of those and then just let them sit on my shelves. Total fail on my part.

And yay to finding new adult fiction! I consider that a total success :)

  10. You are the second person who said they read every book on their winter tbr list. That's wonderful! Though I feel so unaccomplished here.
One of the reason I love reading your blog is to get ideas for some adult fiction to read. I haven't really heard of any of these adult books, but I'm definitely looking into them. Especially The Girls of the Kingfisher Club. Yay for historical fiction fairy-tale retellings!
Good luck reading all your spring tbr list picks for this season, Hannah!

    1. Hah! Oh goodness, reading them all was a total abnormality for me. I'm usually terrible about reading what I've listed.

That's seriously such a compliment. I always want to be the kind of blog with lots of variety and titles that aren't getting as much attention, so I'm really glad to hear you find new adult fiction here. I love the Kingfisher cover - hoping the inside lives up to my expectations :)

Good luck on your Spring TBR, too!

  12. I can't stop looking at Whistling at the Graveyard. I haven't read most of these, but they all look good (the ones I haven't read). The covers are all so pretty! Even the JJackson cover is pretty. :/
