Forward Thinking

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Ever week they post a new topic/Top Ten list and invite everyone to share their own answers. I'm so obsessed with lists!

I'm going to just tell you upfront - I cheated a little on this list. Technically, I'm just supposed to list the debuts I'm excited for this year. But, honestly, I couldn't really think of ten at this point. Maybe that list will grow as I start to hear some more about the debuts coming out this year, but I have about five as it stands now. So, I modified the prompt and included five new releases that I'm looking forward to (even though they aren't debuts).

Top Ten 2013 Debuts (& Releases) I'm Looking Forward To

1. Cinders and Sapphires by Leila Rasheed - The description of the book sounds very Downton Abbey-ish, so obviously I'm in.

2. Strands of Bronze and Gold by Jane Nickerson - Romance, mystery, suspense and a retelling of Bluebeard. Why the heck not? Plus, the cover is so pretty!

3. The Cadet of Tildor by Alex Lidell - I've been seeing some really great reviews of this, so I'd love to check out this debut. I'm in a fantasy phase lately so that's another plus for this book.

4. The Madman's Daughter by Megan Shepherd - The description sounds really interesting, and the cover is so eye-catching. Hope the book inside is even better!

5. Taken by Erin Bowman - I follow Erin on Twitter, and that's made me so excited for her new book. Also, I'm obsessed with the gorgeous book jackets she designed that first led me to her blog.

6. Secrets Over Sweet Tea by Denise Hildreth Jones - This is a new book by one of my favorite authors, and I really hope this lives up to my high expectations.

7. Just One Day by Gayle Forman - With so many people already declaring this a favorite, I've obviously got to read it for myself.

8. Dark Triumph by Robin LaFevers - Grave Mercy was one of my favorite reads last year, and I'm really excited to see where LaFevers takes the series in her second book.

9. Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi - I was really skeptical of Shatter Me, but I finally got over and read the book. Needless to say, I cannot wait for moreeeee!

10. Requiem by Lauren Oliver - I don't know whether to be excited for the conclusion, nervous about where it will go or sad that it will soon be over. So many emotions, y'all!

  2. Oooh The Cadet of Tildor! How could I forget about that one?! I'm also insanely excited for Just One Day, Unravel Me and Requiem (though I still have to read Pandemonium! Can you believe that? I'm afraid of the cliffhanger haha.)

    1. Haha I love that you're afraid of the cliffhanger! You'll have to read it right before Requiem comes out. I cannot wait for it!

  5. Cinders & Sapphires is on a lot of lists! I WANT to read it, but it's getting a lot of hype as comparable to Downton Abbey, so as a Downton fan, I'm all NERVOUS about that.

    1. I know - I'm scared of the Downton comparison. On one hand, it makes me want to read it more. On the other hand, I'm nervous because everything I've read that's been compared to Downton has been such a letdown. I'll probably read some reviews of this one before purchasing!

  8. The only books on the list above that I've read are Taken and The Madman's Daughter (and they're right next to each other, too!), but I thought both of them were awesome. I hope you like them! I also have Strands of Bronze and Gold, which sounds awesome, and I'm reading Just One Day, which is amazing. Great list!

  9. You MUST read Just One Day. I devoured it overnight, and am still thinking about it nearly a week later! It's definitely a wonderful book.

Also, we share a lot of debuts on this particular list you made. YAY for The Cadet of Tildor (which was awesome!)! I'm also very excited for Taken :)

    1. I know I'll probably fall in love with it as soon as I start it. I just don't know if I want to read it and have it be over already. Does that sound crazy?
