I'll Love You Forever...

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Every week they post a new topic/top ten list and invite everyone to share their own answers. I'm so obsessed with lists - so it makes perfect sense that I'd love this feature!

Top Ten Twenty All-Time Favorite Books
Discovered in the Last 3 Years

THIS WAS AN IMPOSSIBLE PROMPT. I spent forever trying to narrow down my list, decide what books would make the cut, debating my choices... In the end, I made two "top ten" lists (though I still can't believe how many amazing books aren't featured in this post). So, I'm highlighting ten adult books and ten young adult books!

1. Burial Rites by Hannah Kent / My Review / "It is stunning, moving, and without a doubt, one of the best things I've read in a long time and certainly a favorite of this year."

2. Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier / My Review / "It's gorgeous, moving and just begging to be read again and again. I have no doubt this will be a forever favorite for me!"

3. I Shall Be Near to You by Erin Lindsey McCabe / My Review / "I can't recommend I Shall Be Near to You enough! It's a month later, and the emotion and memory of it still feels fresh on my mind."

4. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes / My Review "No matter what you think about the controversial topic addressed in Me Before You, I am convinced you'll find the book engrossing and memorable! There's just so much to love about it."

5. Before I Go by Colleen Oakley / My Review / "Both heartbreaking and hopeful, Before I Go captures the blessing of love, the beauty of life, and the burden of leaving them both behind. I loved every bit of this book, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it."

6. The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett / My Review / "I was swept away by this book. It was a good reminder that I should never put off reading a book that's calling my name - even if it's a whopper of a read."

7. Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel / My Review "Almost two months have passed since I finished it, and I've read numerous books since then, but I can still clearly picture so many scenes in my mind. Quite simply, Station Eleven has stayed with me."

8. After I Do by Taylor Jenkins Reid / My Review / "This book solidified Reid as an auto-buy author for me. I don't care what she writes in the future - I know I want to read it... If you like contemporary fiction or just a damn good book, you need to read this one."

9. Nowhere but Home by Liza Palmer / My Review / "I do declare, this book was gooder than grits. It's funny, but not fluffy. It's sad, but not depressing. It's Southern, but not a stereotype. It's this perfect blend - like mixing sweet tea and lemonade - that resulted in a read I won't ever forget."

10. Attachments by Rainbow Rowell / My Review / "Honestly, I was hardcore gripping the edge of my Kindle while reading at one point. I had legit bookish anxiety about the ending - I didn't even know how my nerves were going to take it if certain things didn't happen in the end. I'll say no more. Just read this book!"

Standalones

11. Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta / My Review / "It was beyond my expectations and fulfilled my every hope. Not only did I love Saving Francesca, but it touched me in a way I never expected. It also solidified my love for Melina Marchetta - that woman can write one hell of a book!" [SHH - NOT REALLY STANDALONE!]

12. All the Truth That's In Me by Julie Berry / My Review / "It's emotional, lovely, haunting and such a wonderful book. The writing is so lyrical that I found myself re-reading passages over again to savor their beauty."

13. Open Road Summer by Emery Lord / My Review / "This book has so much heart, and you don't want to miss it! I was enchanted by the characters and their stories, and I can't wait for more readers to discover this talented author in her incredible debut."

14. The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater / My Review / "I LOVED THIS BOOK. SERIOUSLY. I put it down and didn't even know what to start next because I felt all angsty inside. Why the angst? Because obviously nothing was going to live up to this one. It was just that good of a read for me."

15. The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay / My Review / "The Sea of Tranquility is emotional, romantic, heartbreaking, infuriating, hilarious, amazing, intense and just downright wonderful. Adjective overload? Maybe. But it's totally deserving."

Series

16. Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas / My Review / "There is a land called Perfection, and Sarah J. Maas is its Queen. Oh, sorry. Was that not helpful? I guess I can try again: I will follow Celaena Sardothien to whatever end. See? There's nothing that can be done for me. I'm sold on this series... and basically would have no hesitation in putting these in my "if I was on a deserted island" survival bag.

17. Daughter of Smoke and Bone Series by Laini Taylor / My Review / "Be prepared to lose yourself in this world and fall in love with these characters as the battle between good and evil divides friends and foes."

18. Lynburn Legacy Series by Sarah Rees Brennan / My Review / "I loved these characters SO much, and I was so invested in everything that happened to them. There is so much emotion packed in these pages - grief, frustration, hope, fear, love, anger, bitterness, joy, disgust... It's all there."

19. The Girl of Fire and Thorns Series by Rae Carson / My Review / "A complex, incredible heroine is surrounded by secondary characters that are just as intriguing. And the love interest? Meeting him is reason enough to dive into these books."

20. The Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta / My Review / "I smiled a little as I turned the last page and closed the book. Although we didn't get off to the best start, I really did enjoy the time I spent in Lumatere."

  1. I actually had Station Eleven in my reading list of last year but I never felt compelled to pick it up and finish. You are the second blogger I see who loved it. Maybe I should give it a second chance, the beginning was dragging for me and thus I did not continued it.

  2. I'm so glad I'm not the only one that had trouble narrowing it down, Hannah! I ended up with 15 and made a similar comment about the topic being unfair & impossible, haha! :)

So many of these are on my read or TBR lists, it's amazing how similar our reading tastes are. Also, I don't know if I've mentioned this already or not, but we have Before I Go as a face out in the fiction section at my store, and ever since I've read your review its like the book is calling to me - I see it multiple times every time I work and it's like I can hear it whispering, "Read meeeee." Haha! Hopefully soon :)

  4. Basically all of your adult = amazing picks. Of course, Open Road Summer is awesome too! And DOSAB. And TOG. Yeah, good picking!

Love how you manipulated the topic!

  5. I JUST finished After I Do last night, and it was your and Jamie @ The Perpetual Page Turner's reviews that made me want to give it a try. And yes, it was WONDERFUL and definitely will make my favorite adult fiction list in the future. I'm always looking to try more adult contemporary, but the only other one on your list I've read was Attachments (which I also LOVED).

    Lovely list!

  6. You little cheater ;) So many things to comment about now, since you picked TWENTY!

ADULT BOOKS: I'm a bit jealous you have a hardcover version of Daughter of the Forest. I own a copy of Me Before You but still haven't read it yet. It's a tear-jerker, isn't it? Never heard of After I Do -- going on my TBR now! ATTACHMENTS, YAY!!!

YA BOOKS: I can't get over Open Road Summer. Emery Lord turned into an automatic-buy author for me with that debut. I've also heard amazing things about Sea of Tranquility! ToG (will get to soon, promise!)! DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE *screams*

    Such great picks!

  8. I'm not even sorry to tell you that I'm so smug that I've read FIFTEEN of your favorites from the last three years! This makes me awfully proud. But seriously, what a great selection, H! You've picked such an interesting variety, which I love, and I think it's totally fair that you did 10 adult and 10 YA ;)
